COUPLING II
COUPLING II
The International Sea Fair celebrated its 15th edition in 2026, from 22 to 24 May, at Muelle Sanapú, next to the Poema del Mar aquarium and the Onda Atlántica Footbridge in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the City Council and the Port Authority, and organised by Infecar and Ciudad de Mar, FIMAR has become a benchmark event for the nautical and marine-maritime sector in the archipelago.
Under the theme “Outermost Regions and the Sea”, the fair highlighted the strategic role of these territories in the blue economy, marine innovation and Atlantic cooperation. Its aim was to provide companies and professionals with a specialised space to generate knowledge, foster opportunities and strengthen the blue economy.

Members of the EOMAR and OFYGA research groups, representing the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria within the COUPLING II project, presented and disseminated the project’s objectives and planned activities through public engagement workshops, educational infographics, hands-on activities and children’s workshops. The photographs show selected moments from the event and the interaction with visitors.

Poster for the activity “Be an Oceanographer for a Day”, an outreach initiative of the COUPLING II project designed to bring experimental oceanography closer to the public through the use of a multiparameter probe and the analysis of different water samples.

Poster for the children’s workshop “Create Your Own Penguin”, a creative COUPLING II activity where children design, paint and name their own penguin, connecting art, imagination and polar science.

Educational puzzle used in the COUPLING II outreach activities to explain the formation and seasonal evolution of sea ice around the Antarctic Peninsula, and its connection with the food web of Antarctic marine ecosystems.
